Improving Agricultural Productivity of Small and Marginal Farmers by erecting community solar fence Sangareddy in Hathnoora Mandal, Telangana, India
CSFD, with an intention to improve the agricultural productivity of small and marginal farmers and make renewable energy available to the grassroots, has implemented the project of laying a community solar fence on identified stretches of land in two villages namely Paniyal and Badampet. These villages are daunted by continuous threats of animal attacks leading to heavy losses. The key purpose of the project was to erect a community solar fence thereby control animal menace, improve agricultural productivity, grow more food crops and resuming crop rotation. A total of 165 acres is being covered through this project reaching out to 100 small and marginal farmers and their families.
Post the project, the farmers have shifted to growing various food crops and are experimenting growing different plantations like papaya. Significantly, farmers have reported that solar fence is improving the health and productivity, which otherwise, was deteriorated due to the constant requirement of watching and patrolling the farmlands in the night to avoid the animal raids.
However, to study the long term impact of the solar fence, we have taken up phase II of the project.
